We Are HiringThe South African National Blood Service (SANBS)is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager : Translational Research to oversee the Translational Research Team.

The successful candidate will ensure that all SANBS-associated research adheres to regulatory and ethical standards.

This position plays a key role in enhancing SANBS's research capacity, supporting strategic initiatives, and driving the publication of research findings.

The role is essential to positioning SANBS as a Centre of Excellence in research.

Role Purpose

The Manager : Translational Research is responsible for :

  • Leading the Translational Research Team and ensuring research compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements.
  • Enhancing SANBS's research capacity in line with strategic objectives.
  • Driving internal and external research collaborations.
  • Ensuring effective dissemination of research outputs in peer-reviewed publications and relevant scientific meetings.
Special Circumstances
  • Overtime may be required as needed.
  • Occasional national and international travel, including overnight stays.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Experience in data extraction, preparation, and biomedical statistical analysis is essential.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Master's degree specializing in health analytics, biostatistics, information management, or data sciences. A managerial qualification is advantageous.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience, overseeing a team. At least 5 years of experience in epidemiology and biostatistics, using relational databases and large datasets. Experience in data management, analytics, and interpretation of research results.
  • Proficiency in statistical software and methods to analyze and interpret research data.
  • Knowledge of decision sciences such as statistics, mathematics, machine learning, and data mining.

  • Strong business knowledge and subject matter expertise.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write scientific manuscripts and present analytics results effectively.
  • Innovative approaches to the visualization of research outcomes.

Business Planning and Implementation

  • Develop and implement the Translational Research business plan, aligned with SANBS's mission and vision.
  • Manage research budgets, resources, and policies, ensuring effective execution and collaboration across internal and external stakeholders.

Customer and Stakeholder Relationship Building

  • Build and manage strategic partnerships to strengthen research and development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal divisions and external partners to ensure compliant data use and contribute to scientific publications.

Analytics

  • Lead the management and analysis of research data.
  • Interpret results and communicate insights to support decision-making, publications, and stakeholder engagement.

Improving Process Integration in Translational Research

  • Enhance the integration of research and operational analytics to drive improved outcomes.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure all research activities meet ethical, regulatory, and quality standards, contributing to national and international standard-setting.

  • Lead a diverse and skilled team in line with SANBS equity goals.
