Purpose of Job
The Manager ensures that the Secunda Club’s fields, subsections, venues, guest house, and hospitality operations are safe, vibrant, financially sound, and representative of Sasol’s brand of excellence and care fostering pride, wellness, and engagement among employees and the wider community.
The role drives operational excellence, guest satisfaction, cost efficiency, and compliance with Sasol’s Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) standards. This pivotal role combines facility management, hospitality leadership, and business acumen in one of Sasol’s most visible recreational and guest service environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage and maintain all sports fields, subsections, and clubhouses, ensuring cleanliness, readiness, and professional presentation.
- Oversee conference, meeting, and event venues, including bookings, setup, AV/IT support, seating, catering, and service delivery.
- Maintain integrated booking and scheduling systems to optimise utilisation, minimise downtime.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs, upgrades, and preventive maintenance
- Oversee all guest house operations, including reservations, check-in/out, housekeeping, and guest relations.
- Ensuring rooms are prepared and maintained to high standards.
- Uphold exceptional service quality and guest comfort in line with hospitality best practices.
- Monitor occupancy, pricing, and income while controlling operating costs. Ensure full compliance with South African hospitality, health, fire, and safety regulations.
- Oversee and manage all food, beverage, bar, and catering services across venues and the guest house.
- Ensuring full compliance with liquor licensing, food safety, and service-quality standards. Ensuring the management of menu planning, pricing, procurement, supplier relations, and stock control.
- Implement revenue-growth initiatives through themed events, promotions, and corporate packages.
- Uphold Sasol’s hospitality and presentation standards, while ensuring bar staff deliver responsible, safe, and professional alcohol service always.
- Monitor planning, coordinating, and executing corporate, private, including conferences, weddings, and team-building activities.
- Manage all event logistics—bookings, setup, catering, bar service, technical support, and post-event review.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external clients to deliver high-quality, customised events.
- Develop annual calendars and promotional programmes to maximise venue use and visibility
- Oversee budgeting and financial management for all facilities and hospitality operations, including fields, venues, guest house, and F&B services.
- Monitor income streams, control operational costs, and produce regular financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Manage supplier and contractor contracts and implement commercial initiatives to drive revenue growth and maximise value.
- Lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team across grounds, hospitality, bar, catering, housekeeping, and events.
- Ensure appropriate staffing and scheduling for peak periods.
- Implement performance management and staff development programs, and foster a service-oriented, safety-focused culture aligned with Sasol’s values of care, integrity, and excellence.
- Ensure strict adherence to Sasol SHEQ standards, liquor and food safety laws, health and safety regulations, and fire/building codes.
- Conduct inspections and audits across all facilities and F&B operations, maintain incident logs and risk assessments, and enforce responsible alcohol service, guest safety, and crowd control for events.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with club members, employees, community groups, and corporate clients.
- Represent the Secunda Club professionally.
- Promote facilities through internal communications and marketing.
- Gather feedback to drive service improvements and innovation.
- Provide monthly reports on financial performance, facility utilisation, maintenance, events, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and track KPIs for all areas, and prepare strategic plans to enhance service quality, revenue, and facility operations.
Formal Education
University Bachelor’s Degree/ B Tech (preferably in Hospitality, Facilities Management, Business Management, or related field)
Working Experience
- Experience in hospitality, recreation, or facilities management, including 6 years in leadership.
- Demonstrated experience managing recreation facilities, hospitality and F&B operations, accommodation/guest house services, and conferences/events.
- Proven financial management and vendor contract administration experience. Knowledge of South African liquor and hospitality legislation and SHEQ standards
Other Requirements
- Valid Driver’s Licence (travel between sites required).
- Willingness to work irregular hours, weekends and public holidays for events or operational demands.
- Proficiency in MS Office, POS, and booking/event management systems.
- Must meet criteria to act as the Responsible Person for the liquor licence
