Job description
Job Purpose

The incumbent will manage the Production Control and Materials requirements of an aircraft, ensuring that all maintenance, repairs, modifications, adjustments performed on the aircraft are documented correctly as required by regulatory authorities, the company and the customer.

Operational Focus

Maximise workforce efficiency, enhance the work environment, ensure cost effectiveness, comply with safety, health and environmental regulations, meet customer schedule demands and service level agreements.

Principal Accountabilities

• Manage the operating budget for the year on a daily basis.
• Ensure that all work is documented in accordance with regulatory requirements, customer and company policy.
• Be adaptive to abnormal schedule changes.
• Maintain discipline within the section.
• Train staff to meet operational requirements.
• Maximise team efficiency and productivity.
• Maintain highest level of customer satisfaction.
• Ensure on‑time performance.

DIMENSIONS

Operational dynamics over which the job has a direct impact.

  1. Financial – establish, prepare and manage the departmental operational and capital budget requirements (R25 000 000).
  2. Non‑Financial – manage and develop teams of qualified staff, ensure maximum productivity, on‑time performance and adherence to quality standards and regulations.
  3. Environment – ensure a safe and healthy environment, comply with company policies, CAA, EASA, FAA regulations, workshop instructions, customer contract requirements, health and safety regulations, PFMA.
Demanding Aspects of the Job

Monitor workload versus manpower to ensure efficiencies and on‑time performance; manage material and movement of materials using various in‑house support systems; ensure staff availability and correct skill levels; establish cost control measures to meet budgetary measurements; recognise scheduled plans to accommodate abnormal situations; evaluate situations and apply effective solutions; review customer contracts to ensure compliance to reports; update and amend workshop instruction manual; implement continuous improvement processes.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree or Diploma in a relevant engineering field.
  • Holder of a recognised "Aircraft Trade" qualification.
  • 8 years supervisory experience in the airline industry.
  • Sound knowledge of MEMIS, SAP R3, comprehensive knowledge of ANR and JAR requirements, knowledge of BCS and TCSS control systems, contract interpretation skills, labour relations.
