Job summary

Department of Health in West Rand District Health Services is seeking a Director-level Nursing lead for the District Clinical Specialist Team (DCST). The selected candidate will coordinate nursing clusters, provide professional and technical support, and drive quality patient care in a strategic health division.

The post requires a post-basic PHC diploma, SANC registration, strong leadership, and extensive nursing/management experience.

Qualifications

  • Basic qualification accredited with SANC; Diploma/ Degree in nursing as a professional nurse.
  • Current registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse; post-basic Diploma in Primary Health Care (1 year min).
  • Minimum 10 years nursing experience after registration; 5 years in management or equivalent role.

  • Coordinate and oversee nursing clusters, subdistrict coordinators, facility managers and subdistrict managers.
  • Provide leadership toward realization of division goals and ensure quality patient care.
  • Develop and monitor policies, programmes, and standards for nursing care; manage resources.

Job description

Requirements
  • Basic qualification accredited with the South African Nursing Council in terms of government notice 425, i.e. Diploma\\ Degree in nursing as a professional nurse. Current registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic Diploma in Primary Health Care with a duration of at least 1 year, accredited with the SANC in Primary Health Care. A minimum of 10 years appropriate \\\\ recognizable experience in nursing after registration as a professional nurse with the south African nursing council in general nursing. At least 5 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate\\ recognizable experience in management level as assistant manager or equivalent position. A qualification in Health Services Management / Nursing Administration from a recognised institution will be an added advantage. Strong leadership, good communication and sound interpersonal skills are necessary. South African Nursing Council annual practicing certificate. Good communication & interpersonal skills. Time management skills, Knowledge of relevant legislations and related legal and ethical practices, PFMA and Public Service Act and regulations. Computer literate. A valid driver’s license
Duties
  • Coordination/facilitation/liaising and overseeing of nursing clusters or subdistrict coordinators/facility managers and subdistrict managers. Provide guidance and leadership towards realization of strategic goals and objectives of the division. Provide professional, technical and management support for provision of quality patient care through proper management of nursing care programs and training. Advocate and ensure the promotion of nursing ethos and professionalism. Develop and monitor the implementation of policies, programmes, regulations, practices, procedures and standards pertaining to nursing care. Utilize information technology and other management information systems to manage nursing information for the enhancement of service delivery. Establish, maintain and participate in inter-professional and multi-disciplinary teamwork that promotes efficient and effective health care. Compile and analyse reports and monitor quality improvement plans. Manage and utilize human, financial, physical and material resources in accordance with relevant directives and legislation.
