Management Accountant
Key Responsibilities
- Monthly Management Accounting and Reporting
- Understand the GL structure and maintenance; ensure alignment with reporting.
- Perform detailed review of the general ledger to ensure completeness and accuracy; process journal entries.
- Compile and submit timeous monthly financial reports.
- Adhere to reporting guidelines for FAS and Tax Packs.
- Resolve monthly audit and reporting queries.
- Track and analyze performance across the board, providing commentary (Actual vs Budget vs Forecast vs Prior Year).
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations for review and approval.
- Ensure BU Essbase numbers reconcile to HFM for both monthly and budget figures.
- Monitor cost rabbit with stakeholders to identify impact areas and recommend corrections in the ledger (e.g., accruals release, prepayments, noting unbudgeted costs).
- Maintain a clear and in-depth understanding of balance sheet accounts, including ageing analysis, long outstanding balances, and resolution plans.
- Understand balance sheet items (e.g., accruals) in terms of origin, purpose, reversal expectations, utilization timelines, and final resolution.
- Forecasting: Update rolling monthly forecast in alignment with business expectations.
- Analyze actual performance vs forecast and provide variance explanations.
- Budgeting: Assist Business Partners with budgeting processes.
- Submit monthly commentary on budget variances.
- Upload budgets into the budgeting tool and HFM, ensuring alignment with business sign-off.
- Monitor completeness of budget results during the process, highlighting issues and concerns for resolution.
- Statutory Reporting: Prepare FAS packs and schedules in HFM on a monthly basis.
- Compile ICPs on HFM.
- Ensure all validations on schedules are clear and promote the respective HFM packs.
- Load and promote forecasts on HFM.
- Provide business commentary to explain variances.
- Regulatory Reporting: Ensure analysis schedules are accurately included in returns.
- Provide business commentary to explain monthly variances to Company and The Company regulatory teams.
- Quarterly, Bi-Annual, and Annual Reporting: Complete quarterly, interim, and annual reports timeously and accurately.
- Engage with external auditors at year-end on any issues and group queries.
- Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Build and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders through effective dialogue, listening, advising, influencing, and negotiating.
- Engage stakeholders to understand their requirements.
- Maintain understanding of all balances in the trial balance (TB) with accurate disclosure for reporting.
- Platform Enablement
- Embrace and utilize tools for process efficiency and task standardization (e.g., Alteryx, RPA for journal prep).
- Use approved franchise platforms for reporting (e.g., Power BI for management accounts).
- Actively participate in finance transformation projects like Project Prescient.
- Engage in procurement transformation journey : attend sessions, understand implications of changes, contribute to UAT, and provide insights.
Minimum Qualifications and Knowledge
- Minimum Qualification: Minimum B.Com Accounting Degree
- CA(SA) or CIMA preferred
- Experience: 3-5 years experience
- Banking and financial services exposure beneficial
- Technical Prerequisites: Sound accounting principles
- Data analytics proficiency
- KPI and metric creation and reporting
