Job summary

Sumer is seeking a Management Accountant in Johannesburg to manage and maintain financial records for a hub within the Sumer Group. You will prepare management accounts, statutory accounts and VAT returns, while delivering insightful analysis to support leadership decisions.

This role collaborates with the UK finance team and requires proactive, detail-oriented accounting professionals. Ideal candidates will be CA(SA)/CIMA/SAIPA or equivalent, with strong Excel skills and experience using Xero,

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (CA(SA), CIMA or SAIPA) or equivalent experience.
• Currently working as a management accountant within a professional services firm is beneficial.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting and internal controls.
• Excellent Excel proficiency.
• Experience with Xero and Sage Intacct.
• Experience with accounting and practice management software: Access Dimensions & Practice Engine.
• Excellent attention to detail and numerical skills.
• Effective communication and cross-team collaboration.
• Highly organised with multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts per group timetable.
• Compile monthly operational KPI data book.
• Perform monthly reconciliations for bank, control accounts and balance sheets.
• Process and review AP/AR and staff expenses.
• Assist in statutory accounts and regulatory filings.
• Liaise with internal departments to ensure data accuracy.
• Support quarterly VAT returns and tax compliance.
• Provide ad-hoc financial reports and analysis to senior management.

Description

As a Management Accountant, you will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining the financial records of a Hub withing the Sumer Group. Working closely with the internal finance team based in the UK - you will be responsible for the preparation of management accounts, statutory accounts and VAT returns, as well as providing insightful financial analysis to support the firm’s leadership in decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of monthly management accounts in accordance with the group reporting timetable
• Compilation of monthly operational KPI data book
• Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, control accounts, and balance sheet items.
• Process and review internal financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and staff expenses.
• Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts and regulatory filings.
• Liaise with internal departments to ensure financial information is accurate and up to date.
• Support the preparation of quarterly VAT returns and other tax compliance requirements.
• Provide ad-hoc financial reports and analysis as required by senior management.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

We would expect the successful candidate to demonstrate the following:

• Be a qualified accountant (CA(SA)) or CIMA or SAIPA Accountant) or have equivalent experience.
• Currently working as a management accountant within a professional services firm is highly beneficial
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, management accounting, and internal controls.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Working experience of Xero and Sage Intacct.
• Experience using accounting and practice management software. In particular, this role will work closely with Access Dimensions (accounting system) and Practice Engine (practice management system)
• Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical skills.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
• Be highly organised, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines.
• Experience working in an Offshore team will be beneficial
