Overview
Our client in the Engineering sector is looking for a Maintenance Manager(GCC Factories) to join their team for a one year contract in Mpumalanga, Witbank.
Requirements :
- BSc, BEng, BTech, National Diploma or equivalent in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) â Factories
- Post graduate management qualification.
- 10+ Yearsâ experience the maintenance field in heavy industry.
- Practical experience in both the electrical and mechanical disciplines.
- Project management experience.
- Experience in WCM
- 5+ Yearsâ middle / departmental management experience in asset / maintenance management in heavy industry.
- Prior GMR 2.1 / 2.7 legal appointment, demonstrating good understanding of the OHSAct and its regulations, with 5+ years' experience holding such an appointment.
- Valid driverâs license and own transport
- Computer literacy (MS Office Suite)

Duties and Responsibilities

- Verify that all equipment and machinery meet applicable health and safety regulations and standards.
- Advise superintendents and management on statutory requirements for their assets and support compliance efforts.
- Ensure contractors adhere to site regulations and legal safety requirements.
- Fulfill duties as a GMR 2.1 appointee.
- Collaborate with finance to develop and manage the maintenance budget, achieving cost efficiencies.
- Contribute to the 5-year capital expenditure plan.
- Optimize resources for maintenance execution.
- Implement systems for forward-looking maintenance cost forecasting to support annual budgets and monthly projections.
- Identify and pursue cost-reduction opportunities.
- Prepare and submit regular maintenance reports to management.
- Maintain and update the asset risk register.
- Plan and execute preventive maintenance programs on schedule.
- Analyze operational and administrative issues, recommending and implementing effective solutions.
- Monitor, record, and report on utilities consumption.
- Oversee maintenance for safety, efficiency, quality, budget adherence, and resource optimization.
- Uphold high housekeeping standards in responsible areas.
- Plan, organize, and direct maintenance and repair activities to maximize asset returns.
- Demonstrate leadership through collaboration, partnership, and effective communication across teams.
- Develop plans to minimize costs via efficient use of personnel, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital.
- Implement maintenance strategies and practices aligned with organizational goals.
- Establish accountability for problem-solving and cost reduction within teams.
- Provide technical support for plant maintenance and repairs.
- Generate reports, analyze data, and recommend improvements for plants and facilities.
- Draft tender specifications for outsourced services and equipment procurement.
- Hold teams accountable for peak efficiency and quality in maintenance performance.
- Lead problem-solving initiatives using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Manage a critical spares list, coordinate with procurement for availability, and maintain effective stock control for consumables and spares.
- Conduct breakdown investigations using root cause analysis and similar methods.
- Track and report on plant availability, utilization, and KPIs (e.g., MTBF, MTTR).
- Maintain accurate maintenance and statutory records.
- Coordinate all plant shutdown maintenance activities.
- Enhance reliability through informed decisions and initiatives to maximize output and quality.
- Identify improvement areas in maintenance, equipment performance, and quality management; implement supporting systems and processes.
- Ensure maintenance reporting complies with policies and procedures.
- Provide input on business cases for capital projects and support delivery to meet economic and operational targets.
- Report on KPIs, highlighting key developments to senior management.
- Implement risk mitigation to eliminate major or repeat incidents and unplanned outages.
- Promote ongoing risk assessment and continuous improvement in operations.
- Assess asset risks and plan for acquisition, maintenance, replacement, and disposal in collaboration with the Asset Manager.
- Prioritize critical assets and ensure their effective management.
- Support root cause analysis on failures to improve reliability, in partnership with the Asset Manager and reliability engineers.
