DESCRIPTION :

Pick-Nik Marketing (Pty) Ltd manufactures, markets and sells tissue and hygiene products through Retail and Business to Business channels in South Africa and neighboring countries. Its Head Office and operational factories are in Gauteng, Kempton Park.

We are seeking the services of a highly capable Maintenance Fitter.

The incumbent is responsible for minimizing plant downtime, maximizing equipment reliability and extending the operating life of plant equipment and machinery by executing corrective, preventive and proactive maintenance activities, with the aim to have minimal interruption to production.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman / Manager. The incumbent must:

Ensure equipment repairs and scheduled maintenance are conducted in a safe, timely and compliant manner, with minimal impact on operational activities. Training, and supervision of production personnel to ensure assets are operated in a safe and proper manner to increase efficiencies on site and maximize throughput.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Inspect all sections of plant and equipment in assigned areas of responsibilities, ensuring that all defects are noted on the inspection forms for immediate repair or during future maintenance shutdowns. Ensure job cards are created for all defects on the CMMS.
  • Daily reporting of problems that happened on shift and filling in of required (RCFA page 1, Job cards, etc.)
  • Repair equipment as identified through job card requests, improvement project,
  • During equipment breakdowns ensure that all equipment that has failed must be dealt with immediately and brought back to working conditions to ensure that it is available when it is required. Fault finding is done immediately after repairing the breakdown, with emphasis on finding and eliminating the root cause.
  • All temporary repairs must be reported to the maintenance manager immediately and a follow-up job card open.
  • Inform plant management of all situations or conditions that could result in downtime and to take all such remedial action as is necessary to minimize downtime as a result thereof.
  • Maintain workshop machinery to ensure they are fit for safe (Pedestal grinders, welding machines, ladders, etc.)
  • Ensure that maintenance jobs cards issued are completed timeously (before end of shift) and to the correct standard. Upon completion, production must sign the job card off.
  • Assist with the development of maintenance plans, risk assessments, maintenance work instructions, and required audits to ensure high levels of clarity, compliance, and understanding among staff.
  • Represent the company in a professional, ethical and positive manner always, both with respect to communication and appearance.
  • Undertake all duties in accordance with relevant work health and safety requirements and in accordance with PickNik Marketing Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Recognized trade (Fitter)
  • Minimum of N3 Mechanical Engineering
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • At least 3-4 years’ relevant mechanical and plant maintenance experience
  • Be able to interact and communicate effectively on all levels
  • Welding basic skills
  • Skilled in alignment of rotating elements using a dial
  • Skilled in fitment of tyre, bibby, spring, spider and direct
  • Mounting and removing of bearings & bearing maintenance including bushings manufacture and fitment from various materials.
  • Lubrication with both oils and greases
  • Taper Key manufacture and fit
  • Hydraulics component identification, function and maintenance (Basic)
  • Pneumatics component identification, function and maintenance (Basic)
  • Fitment and alignment of belts (v pulley, timing)
  • Fitment and alignment of chain & sprocket
  • Reading of mechanical component drawings
  • Marking off according to drawing specifications
  • Belt splicing & Tracking (conveyer belting)
  • Install, Align and Track conveyor roller assemblies
  • Making up and installation of pipe systems (Threaded Pipe Systems)
  • Pump installation and maintenance (Peristaltic, Mono pump, Diaphragm pumps, centrifugal pumps, submerged pumps, gear pumps)
  • Valves installation and maintenance (Globe, Gate, Slide, Diaphragm, Ball, Pinch, Butterfly valves)
  • Mixer / Agitator
  • Bulk Material handling (Screw conveyers, Bucket elevators)
  • Mechanical Cutting Machines
  • Gearboxes (Backlash, alignment, floats)
