Qualifications

Local Manager, Butchery

Location: Pretoria North – Gauteng. Time type: Full time. Post date: Posted Today. Closing date: 07 November.

The Butchery Manager is responsible for the leadership and supervision of the Butchery department within a Pick n Pay Corporate store. This function includes planning, organising, directing, motivating, controlling and providing operational support in order to achieve the Butchery Division objectives and Pick n Pay’s overall objectives.

Minimum Requirements
  • Matric / Grade 12
  • Minimum of 3 years butchery management experience; a Butchery Skills qualification is advantageous.
  • Ability to cut, pack, manufacture and merchandise all butchery products.
  • Ability to operate all butchery equipment.
  • Friendly customer service skills.
  • Product knowledge for butchery products.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • High energy levels.
  • Excellent personal hygiene and work‑environment hygiene standards.
  • Ability to learn new information quickly.
Key Responsibilities
  • Customer service – give customers undivided attention, demonstrate product knowledge, recommend products.
  • Product preparations – follow recipe manual, break carcass into primal form, ensure quality.
  • Merchandising – adhere to butchery merchandising flow, keep categories together, maintain clean, hygienic area, monitor shelf availability, take corrective action.
  • Hygiene & housekeeping – maintain cleanliness during production, deep‑clean post‑production, keep equipment clean and in good working condition, follow safety procedures, report faults.
  • Administration – assist with all administrative processes, conduct stock take, calculate gross profit, maintain staff rosters, place stock orders, ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Sales & profitability – ensure product availability, promote sales, achieve budget, oversee carcass cutting for profitability, perform stock rotation, apply cutting plan to minimise waste.
  • Leading teams – lead, monitor and coach direct reports, provide feedback, handle discipline, keep team updated on new initiatives.
