Overview

TELUS Digital ("TIAI") is looking for English linguists for our Accents Data Collection – Linguistic revision project. The project can be completed remotely from your home.

Task description

A linguist will be invited to listen to audio samples (each approx. 30 s long) to assess the regional accent and native language of the participant and then verify if the transcription provided is correct, fix it if required, and evaluate if the task is completed in line with the instructions, report issues regarding background noise, etc.

Responsibilities

• Perform quality checks and revision on audio files for native language, accent, noises, and speech naturalness.
• Ensure transcription accuracy and make edits to the transcription text as applicable.
• Transcription annotation – insert emotions (e.g., happy, sad) and non-verbal cues (e.g., laugh, cough, lip smack).
• Transcription time-stamping – set correct start and end times for speech segments.
• Verify if the task was completed in line with the instructions and report any issues.

Workload and duration

The tasks will become available on an almost daily basis and the volume will vary daily. Overall time spent on the whole project will vary from 2 to 4 hours.

Compensation

Participants that are selected for the Project as Linguistic reviewers will receive: 17.88 USD/h (this is an estimate, based on average productivity of items rated in an hour). The rate per item is 0.75 USD per item rated.
