Job summary

Curro Serengeti in Kempton Park seeks a Life Sciences Teacher (FET Phase) for a full-time appointment starting January 2027. You will teach Life Sciences and coordinate a range of subjects per the Curro curriculum, fostering knowledge transfer, skills development and positive learner attitudes.

The ideal candidate holds a BEd and/or PGCE in FET phase education, ideally with an honours in education, and has 3+ years of FET phase experience with IEB knowledge.

Qualifications

• BEd and/or PGCE in FET phase education; Honours in education advantageous.
• Minimum 3 years' experience as an FET phase teacher.
• Knowledge of the IEB curriculum.
• Strong facilitation, problem-solving and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach and coordinate subjects per Curro curriculum for the FET phase.
• Plan lessons using modern-day tools, set up workbooks and monitor academic progress.
• Set up term plan, differentiate learning materials to accommodate barriers to learning.
• Provide baseline assessments and tailor subject choices and remedial plans.
• Plan and manage the classroom including assessment roster and parent communications.
• Set up and manage assessments and homework, including moderation and supervision.
• Plan and manage extramural activities and outings.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring support and extra lessons.

Curro is seeking to appoint a high school FET phase teacher at Curro Serengeti in Kempton Park. The role involves teaching and coordinating a range of subjects as per the Curro curriculum for the FET phase. The teacher is responsible for the active teaching, knowledge transfer, skills development and growth of positive attitudes among learners through integrated and focused teaching approaches.

Key performance areas

• Perform teaching duties, including planning lessons using modern-day tools and processes, setting up workbooks and measuring academic improvement and achievement
• Set up, implement, monitor and adjust the term plan as necessary, considering exams, assessments and school activities as well as the need for differentiated learning materials to accommodate barriers to learning
• Create baseline assessments to assess knowledge levels and based on the assessment outcomes, make recommendations for subject choices/combinations, teaching methods and remedial work/catch-up programmes
• Plan and manage the classroom, including the assessment roster, classroom design and set-up for optimal performance, disciplinary rules and communication with learners and parents
• Set up and manage assessments (formal and continuous) and homework, including moderation, revision and supervision
• Plan and manage extramural activities and outings
• Provide one-on-one tutoring support and extra lessons

Qualifications, experience and skills

• BEd degree and/or PGCE in FET phase education, with an honours degree in education (in the relevant subject/s) advantageous
• Minimum 3 years' experience as an FET phase teacher
• Knowledge of the IEB curriculum
• Proven facilitation, problem-solving and report-writing skills
• Excellent communication, organisational and planning skills
• Willing and able to work extended hours and weekends
