Placements24 is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to provide expert guidance on renewable energy projects from a fully remote setup across South Africa. You will advise on development, financing, construction, and operations, drafting key agreements and ensuring regulatory compliance.

The role requires SA- admitted Attorney with 5+ years in energy or infrastructure, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to manage multiple high-priority projects remotely.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in energy, finance, or infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of SA energy law and regulatory frameworks.
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex contracts.
• Excellent analytical and negotiation skills; able to work remotely.

Responsabilités

• Provide comprehensive legal advice on development, financing, construction, and operations of renewable energy projects.
• Draft, review, and negotiate PPAs, EPC contracts, JV agreements, and financing documents.
• Advise on regulatory compliance with SA energy laws and environmental regulations.
• Conduct legal due diligence for project acquisitions and investments.
• Manage and resolve disputes and litigation related to energy projects.
• Liaise with government authorities, regulators, and industry associations.
• Support finance team in securing project financing and managing lender relations.

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the renewable energy sector with operations near Centurion , is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to provide expert advice on a wide range of legal matters. This role is critical in supporting the company's expanding portfolio of energy projects and ensuring compliance within a complex regulatory framework. As a fully remote position, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere in South Africa, collaborating with project teams, senior management, and external stakeholders through advanced digital platforms. We are looking for a proactive legal mind with a strong understanding of energy law and commercial transactions to help drive sustainable growth and navigate the evolving energy landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive legal advice on all aspects of renewable energy projects, including development, financing, construction, and operations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, such as power purchase agreements (PPAs), EPC contracts, joint venture agreements, and financing documents.
• Advise on regulatory compliance with South African energy laws, environmental regulations, and permitting requirements.
• Conduct legal due diligence for project acquisitions and investments.
• Manage and resolve legal disputes and litigation related to energy projects.
• Liaise with government authorities, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
• Support the finance team in securing project financing and managing lender relationships.
• Stay updated on energy market trends, policy changes, and legal developments affecting the sector.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience, with a significant focus on energy law, project finance, or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of South African energy legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Proven experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously in a remote setting.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders.
