Role Purpose

The Legal Counsel will provide practical and thoughtful legal support across our organisation, helping us build strong, compliant, and ethical foundations for our operations. Work closely with colleagues from different departments, offering sound legal guidance, ensuring compliance with, amongst other things, the Companies Act and non‑profit legislation, protecting our IP, data privacy and promoting good governance practices.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements.
  • Prepare and review legal correspondence, policies, and internal documentation.
  • Conduct legal research and provide clear, practical advice on commercial, corporate, and compliance matters.
  • Support good corporate governance and help ensure compliance with the Companies Act, non‑profit organisations legislation, and other relevant laws.
  • Partner with teams across the organisation to identify, understand, and manage legal risks.
  • Assist with strategic projects, transactions and new initiatives.
  • Engage and collaborate with external legal advisers when needed.
  • Stay informed on relevant legislation and share insights that support continuous learning and improvement.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Admitted Attorney or Advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
  • At least 4 years' post‑qualification experience in commercial or corporate law, ideally with exposure to both the private and non‑profit sectors.
  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate commercial agreements.
  • Solid understanding of the Companies Act and corporate governance principles.
  • Excellent legal research and problem‑solving skills.
