Job summary

A government entity in Pretoria seeks a dynamic Legal Advisor: Commercial to draft and review contracts, conduct legal due diligence, and advise on compliance. The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor of Laws and has at least 7 years of post-admission experience, preferably in a commercial or technology setting. Introduction Our SOE client is looking for a dynamic and driven Legal Advisor: Commercial to join our Legal Services Business Unit on a 6 Months FTC.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Draft and review commercial contracts, legal opinions, and close-out reports.
  • Conduct legal due diligence for innovation programmes and funding applications.
  • Identify and mitigate legal risks while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Support and mentor legal team members to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Contribute to the development of legal frameworks, guidelines, and internal controls.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and represent Legal Services on relevant committees.
  • Engage in governance, compliance, and quality assurance initiatives.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB, BProc, BIuris) or related degree.
  • Admission as an Attorney or Advocate in South Africa.
  • Minimum 7 years post-admission legal experience.
  • At least 2 years in a commercial, intellectual property, or technology environment preferred.
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, legal analysis, and advisory skills.
  • Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
