A leading international corporate and trust services group is seeking a detail-driven Legal & Administrative Assistant to join their Stellenbosch team. This role supports a senior director with client onboarding, compliance, legal documentation, and day-to-day administrative and business development functions.

The position offers exposure to cross-border structures, international clients, and collaboration with global offices, making it ideal for an individual who enjoys a mix of legal work, client interaction, and high-level administration.

About the Role

You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth onboarding of new clients, handling compliance checks, managing documentation, and liaising with intermediaries such as attorneys, financial advisers and accountants. The role also includes assisting with meetings, correspondence, and general support to a senior director focused on business development.

This position requires a solid understanding of companies, trusts and related legal structures, as well as strong administrative abilities and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with onboarding new clients, including reviewing and verifying legal and compliance documentation.
  • Handle administrative processes related to offshore structures such as companies, trusts, pensions and retirement products.
  • Assist with the administration of South African companies and trusts, including payments.
  • Review agreements and legal documents for accuracy.
  • Liaise with intermediaries (lawyers, auditors, financial advisers) and respond to their queries.
  • Manage client enquiries via email and telephone, ensuring prompt and accurate responses.
  • Coordinate with overseas offices to support global client needs.
  • Prepare, collate and dispatch documentation and application forms.
  • Follow internal checklists to ensure accurate processing of tasks.
  • Assist with scheduling meetings and client communication on behalf of the director.
  • Participate in process improvements where needed.
  • Draft and check trust-related documents, letters of wishes and other legal paperwork.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate law qualification and admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa (non-admitted candidates will not be considered).
  • Strong administrative background with experience in document review and compliance.
  • Excellent spoken and written English; understanding of Afrikaans beneficial.
  • Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to engage with clients and professional intermediaries.
  • High attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proactive mindset and ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver’s licence and own transport.
  • Willingness to work from both the Stellenbosch office and occasionally the Cape Town Waterfront office.
