Responsibilities
- Responsible for teaching and learning in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the relevant field, including lectures, tutorials, practical classes, preparation, presentation, assessments and seminars.
- Coordinate and lecture modules in applicable fields.
- Provide clinical supervision of students within the applicable field and relevant fields.
- Provide support for skills development within the applicable field and relevant fields.
- Provide supervision for undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
- Contribute to relevant development within the curriculum.
- Maintain a scholarly profile in an academic department.
- Conduct research with outputs such as publications and presentations of research.
- Participate in national and/or international fora to share research results.
- Identify and access funding sources to support own research and that of colleagues and postgraduate students.
- Update knowledge and understanding in the field of specialisation.
- Actively participate in the research focus areas of the Department.
Inherent requirements
Lecturer
- A PhD degree on NQF Level 10 in Nursing (for a permanent appointment).
- or a Masters degree on NQF Level 9 in Nursing (contract appointment: five (5) years during which a doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in Nursing MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position).
- A Professional Bachelors degree on NQF Level 8 in Nursing or an equivalent qualification (attach a copy).
- Registered at the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse General (General Psychiatry Community) and Midwife / Accoucheur (attach a copy).
- An additional qualification in Nursing Education and registered as such with SANC (attach a copy).
- An additional qualification in Occupational Health Nursing and registered as such with SANC (attach a copy).
- Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
- Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
- A good academic record (attach a copy).
- Proven clinical experience after basic training.
Senior Lecturer
- PhD on NQF Level 10 in Nursing.
- A Professional Bachelors degree on NQF Level 8 in Nursing or an equivalent qualification (attach a copy).
- Registered at the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse General (General Psychiatry Community) and Midwife / Accoucheur (attach a copy).
- An additional qualification in Nursing Education and registered as such with SANC (attach a copy).
- An additional qualification in Occupational Health Nursing or Peri-operative Nursing Care and registered as such with SANC (attach a copy).
- Proven experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Nursing.
- Proven experience in the presentation of papers at national scholarly conferences.
- Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
- Demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
- Proven experience in supervision of graduated masters degree students.
- A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
- Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society, committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.
- Proven clinical experience after basic training.
Recommendations
- Experience in the higher education environment.
- Experience in grant writing.
- NRF rated.
