The faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the major scientific disciplines and a professional degree in Pharmacy.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at UWC is committed to increase the retention and throughput of all students regardless of their prior background and circumstances. The Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) plays a critical role in the university’s transformation agenda to widen access to science education and supporting student success.

A vacancy exists in the department for a Lecturer/Associate Lecturer to teach on the Extended Curriculum Programme.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the following key areas:

  • Facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the department of Physics and Astronomy.
  • Conduct research and publish on topics related to the department interest and expertise.
  • Undertake undergraduate and/or postgraduate supervision.
  • Undertake curriculum development and assessment.
  • Undertake community engagement and outreach.
Minimum requirements for Lecturer
  • MSc in Physics or related fields and currently registered for a PhD with clear plans of completion.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision at the honours level.
  • Evidence of research output in the form of a research publication (s) in accredited journals.
Minimum requirements for Associate Lecturer
  • BSc Honours in Physics and currently registered for a MSc with clear plans of completion.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
Advantageous criteria
  • Experience in ECP teaching.
  • Demonstrated experience in technology-enhanced teaching and using sensors and data acquisition systems in undergraduate education.
  • A proven track record of designing and implementing active learning activities.
