Placements24 is seeking an exceptional Lead Software Architect for a fully remote role with strategic oversight of Midrand, Gauteng operations. You will define technical roadmaps and guide engineering teams to build scalable, secure financial platforms, leveraging cloud-native patterns and modern architectural practices.

The role requires 10+ years in software development, 5+ in senior architectural leadership, and deep expertise in distributed systems, API design, and cloud technologies

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Design and document high-level software architecture for new and existing applications, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Define and enforce architectural standards, best practices, and design patterns across engineering teams.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical designs.
• Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools for software development projects.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software development teams.
• Conduct code reviews and architectural reviews to ensure adherence to design principles.
• Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and potential architectural risks.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, driving innovation within the architectural roadmap.
• Develop proof-of-concepts and prototypes to validate architectural approaches.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a software architect or senior technical lead role.
• Extensive experience in designing and implementing complex, distributed systems, microservices architectures, and cloud-native applications (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C#, Go) and databases (SQL and NoSQL).
• Strong understanding of API design, event-driven architectures, and data modeling.
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and drive architectural decisions.
• Experience in the financial services or FinTech industry is highly desirable.
• This is a fully remote position, but candidates should be aware of and comfortable with the strategic focus on operations in Midrand, Gauteng .
