You will lead ambitious projects spanning solar, wind, and biomass integration and mentor postgraduate students.

The role involves securing research funding, publishing in leading journals, and collaborating with industry partners and government agencies.

Qualifications

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of post-doctoral research experience in sustainable energy systems.
• Demonstrated expertise in renewable energy technologies (solar, wind, biomass), grid integration, and energy storage.
• Proven track record of securing research grants and publishing high-quality research.
• Experience in supervising postgraduate students.
• Proficiency in energy modeling and simulation software (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PVSyst, HOMER).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex research findings clearly.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.
• Experience with life cycle assessment (LCA) and techno-economic analysis is a plus.
• Must be able to work effectively within our Bloemfontein campus, with a hybrid arrangement.

Responsibilities

• Lead research initiatives focused on the integration and optimization of renewable energy systems.
• Conduct in-depth analysis of energy efficiency, grid stability, and energy storage solutions.
• Develop mathematical models and simulations for energy systems performance.
• Secure research funding through national and international grant applications.
• Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at international conferences.
• Supervise and mentor PhD and Master's students involved in energy research projects.
• Collaborate with industry partners and government agencies on sustainable energy solutions.
• Contribute to curriculum development and teaching in areas related to sustainable energy.
• Manage research project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
• Promote interdisciplinary research and foster collaborations within the university and beyond in Bloemfontein.
