Placements24 in East London, Eastern Cape, SA, seeks a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to architect, develop, and deploy robust ML systems. You will lead a team of engineers, collaborate with data scientists, and drive scalable AI platforms onsite.

The role requires a Master's or PhD, 5+ years of hands-on ML experience, strong Python and ML library skills, and expertise in ML infrastructure, MLOps, and cloud services. You will mentor engineers while aligning ML initiatives with business goals.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field.
• 5+ years hands-on experience in machine learning engineering, with a proven track record of deploying ML models into production.
• Strong proficiency in Python and common ML libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
• Expertise in ML infrastructure, MLOps principles, and tools (Docker, Kubernetes, MLflow, CI/CD).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their ML services.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing and mentoring engineering teams is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of machine learning models and systems across various business domains.
• Architect scalable, production-ready ML pipelines, from data ingestion and feature engineering to model training, deployment, and monitoring.
• Mentor and guide a team of machine learning engineers, fostering their technical growth and ensuring project success.
• Collaborate with data scientists to translate research models into efficient and scalable production code.
• Define and enforce best practices for ML development, including code quality, testing, version control, and MLOps.
• Optimize ML models for performance, latency, and resource utilization in production environments.
• Identify opportunities to leverage ML for business improvement and innovation.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in machine learning, deep learning, and MLOps.
