Job summary

A forward-thinking infrastructure and construction group is seeking a seasoned Lead Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of the design and execution of advanced mechanical systems. The role requires a minimum of 5 years in mechanical design, proficiency in CAD and FEA tools, and strong leadership skills. This opportunity is located in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, and is open to South African residents or those with a relevant work permit.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years experience in mechanical design within mining heavy machinery or large‑scale infrastructure environments.
  • Proven track record working with large complex mechanical systems and assemblies.
  • Solid understanding of robotics, industrial automation and large‑scale manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in CAD and FEA tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor or ANSYS.
  • Strong leadership, project management and cross‑disciplinary communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Take end‑to‑end ownership of mechanical design and development for critical systems.
  • Engineer and integrate complex components, including robotics, structural elements and high‑load motion assemblies.
  • Lead technical decision‑making from concept through to commissioning.
  • Develop test plans, oversee prototyping and participate hands‑on in validation and site deployment.
  • Ensure systems meet rigorous safety performance and industry compliance standards.
  • Mentor and guide a high‑performing team of engineers.
