Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Lead Geotechnical Engineer to head operations in Cape Town, Western Cape. Lead investigations for foundations, slopes, and coastal projects, and mentor a team of geotechnical professionals.

The role requires PrEng registration, MSc/MEng in Geotechnical Engineering, and 10+ years’ experience with PLAXIS, SLOPE/W and GeoStudio. Travel to sites is required and leadership is essential.

Qualificações

• Professional registration with ECSA as a PrEng is mandatory.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive geotechnical experience focused on foundation design and investigation.

About the Role

Our client, a highly reputable geotechnical and materials engineering firm, is actively searching for a seasoned Lead Geotechnical Engineer to spearhead their operations in Cape Town, Western Cape . This senior role is critical for managing complex geotechnical investigations and foundation designs for a diverse range of projects, including high-rise buildings, bridges, and coastal infrastructure along the Western Cape coastline. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of geologists and geotechnical engineers, ensuring the highest quality of service and technical excellence. This position offers the chance to shape significant construction projects and contribute to the sustainable development of the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all geotechnical investigation projects, from site reconnaissance to detailed analysis and reporting.
• Perform complex foundation design, slope stability analysis, and ground improvement recommendations.
• Lead the interpretation of geotechnical data and the preparation of comprehensive geotechnical reports.
• Manage client relationships and provide expert technical advice on geotechnical matters.
• Supervise and mentor junior geotechnical engineers and field technicians.
• Ensure adherence to relevant building codes, standards, and best practices in geotechnical engineering.
• Develop and implement quality control procedures for site investigations and laboratory testing.
• Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentations.

Requirements

• MSc or MEng in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (PrEng) is mandatory.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong emphasis on foundation design and investigation.
• Extensive experience with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, GeoStudio).
• Proven track record in managing large, complex projects in the Cape Town and Western Cape region.
• Strong understanding of local geological conditions and seismic risks.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
• Ability to travel to project sites as required.
