Placements24 is seeking a Lead Genomics Researcher to spearhead genomic analyses at their advanced facility in Tembisa, Gauteng. You will lead a team of scientists, design multi-platform NGS projects, and develop pipelines for WGS, WES, and RNA-seq, translating findings into clinical insights.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Genomics/Bioinformatics/Computational Biology with 7+ years of experience, strong programming skills (Python, R, Perl), and a track record of publication.

Qualifications

• PhD in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a closely related field.
• At least 7 years of progressive research experience in genomics and bioinformatics.
• Demonstrated expertise in NGS library preparation and sequencing technologies.
• Proficient in Python, R, and Perl for genomic data analysis.
• Strong knowledge of statistical genetics, population genetics, and variant calling algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of genomics researchers, providing scientific direction and mentorship.
• Design and implement complex genomics research projects across NGS platforms (Illumina, PacBio, Nanopore).
• Develop and optimize bioinformatics pipelines for WGS, WES, and RNA-seq.
• Perform rigorous statistical analyses to identify genetic variants and associations.
• Collaborate with clinicians to translate genomic findings into clinical insights.
• Contribute to interpretation of genomic variants and disease phenotypes.
• Author and co-author high-impact publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Present research findings at national and international conferences.
• Manage research budgets and ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
• Stay current with advancements in genomics and bioinformatics.
