Placements24 is seeking a Lead Computer Vision Engineer in Cape Town to spearhead autonomous systems initiatives. You will design, develop and deploy advanced CV algorithms, guide a team of engineers, and align technical work with product goals.

The role requires a PhD or MSc and 5+ years of CV experience, strong C++ and Python skills, and expertise with OpenCV and DL frameworks. Collaboration with hardware teams and system architecture contributions are expected.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field with a specialization in computer vision.
• 5+ years of experience in developing and deploying computer vision algorithms, with a strong focus on deep learning.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python, with OpenCV and DL frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience in autonomous systems, robotics or self-driving car technologies.
• Ability to lead technical teams and manage complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of computer vision algorithms for real-time autonomous applications.
• Manage and mentor a team of computer vision engineers.
• Develop and optimize deep learning models for object detection, tracking, segmentation, and scene understanding.
• Integrate computer vision systems with hardware and software components of autonomous platforms.
• Conduct rigorous testing and validation to ensure safety and performance standards.
• Stay current with CV/AI research and industry trends and evaluate applications.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define sensor requirements and integration strategies.
• Contribute to the architectural design of the autonomous system.
• Present findings and project updates to stakeholders and senior management.
