Job Purpose
The Associate Consultant will be part of the Land team’s senior management, supporting a rapidly growing portfolio of environmental projects for downstream Oil & Gas sector clients. Responsibilities include contaminated land assessment, environmental liability management and remediation projects, with a focus on programme management and business development for at least two key clients.
Minimum Requirements
- Over 12 years’ relevant work experience.
- BSc (Hons) or Masters in Geology / Earth Science and a postgraduate degree in a related field.
- Proactively manage land quality and remediation projects, leading resource allocation, liaising with clients, specialists and authorities, and ensuring quality assurance, client feedback, and adherence to budgetary, quality, safety and timetable goals.
- Track record of understanding client needs in the land quality and remediation sector and translating this into actions that comply with national regulations and international finance requirements.
- Ability to develop and sustain client relationships that lead to repeat business.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and Word; strong business acumen, planning and account management experience.
- Experience in staff, time and project management; strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Relevant professional certification.
- Willingness and ability to travel; valid driver's licence.
Responsibilities
- Programme management and business development associated with key clients.
- Close engagement with client contacts, driving completion of work by SLR team members.
- Provide strategic and technical consulting advice to clients and SLR staff on contaminated site/remediation projects and proposals.
- Act as regional team lead (KZN) for the land, quality & remediation team based in Durban and other African locations.
- Mentor and train staff; identify and implement strategies to enhance technical expertise and innovation.
- Support and supervise the team to align with client technical and administrative approaches, Health & Safety expectations and improve efficiency.
- Serve as technical focal point to ensure high-quality deliverables (proposals, site work, reports, presentations).
- Manage complex projects and proposals, budgets and schedules, and perform detailed QA/QC reviews of technical work.
- Drive staff compliance with SLR administrative procedures, processes and KPIs.
- Coordinate delivery of projects at a regional level, maintaining effective day‑to‑day communication with other Regional leads and Client Portfolio Managers.
- Track and report KPIs (project schedules, budgets, Health & Safety performance) specific to each client’s requirements.
- Steward SLR’s "One Team, All Safe" Health & Safety culture and impart knowledge/application of Health & Safety requirements unique to contaminated land investigations.
- Proactively pursue, develop and enact business development strategies to expand the LQR client base within the region and across Southern Africa, enhancing SLR’s marketplace reputation.
- Undertake business development activities, including presenting to existing and potential clients, professional and industry associations, regulators and internal stakeholders.
