Lab Schedule / Roster
  • Manage and maintain analysts' tasks, shifts, duties and responsibilities.
  • Set KPI's for individual members within the team and track completion according to policy
  • Compile monthly Shift- and Day Worker roster, ensure adherence to roster and advise management of all changes made to the roster.
  • Make staff arrangements to cover eventualities of staff lateness, illness and leave.
  • Advise Management of these arrangement.
  • Compile Monthly timesheets and submit to Management for approval.
  • Once approved, submit to Payroll Administrator.
  • Minimize overtime and shift changes by enforcing company policies and ensure adherence to all.
Lab Document Control
  • Maintenance, review and control of Laboratory Quality Procedures, ensuring that Lab processes are in line with good lab practices (GLP)
  • On a monthly basis, update Lab Chemical List.
  • Conduct regular assessment of Laboratory glassware and track replacement values to the budget.
Control of Records
  • Ensure that all Lab documents are correctly filed as per relevant procedure, ensuring that documents are readily available and easy to retrieve
  • oversee and monitor compliance to safety records and completion
Equipment Calibration
  • Ensure that monitoring and measuring devices within the Lab are calibrated and checked according to schedule
Purchasing of Lab Consumables and Equipment
  • Manage the requesting of purchase orders and receipt of consumables, glassware and equipment, with the necessary authorization from Management
Audits
  • Prepare for and participates in internal / external audits.
  • Conduct and facilitate RCA's for findings with action items and enforcement.
Personnel Assessment and Development
  • To conduct periodic job observations to assess Lab personnel's skill levels and compile training metrics for development per person
  • Determine training needs, and assist with training where necessary
Routine / Special Analysis
  • Oversee raw material-, in process- and final product analysis according to sampling schedule, and proper approved method
  • Improve methods and process flows to optimize lab output and turnaround time
  • Ensure that all routine samples are analyzed and communicated, within allocated time frames
  • Where more than 1 test needs to be conducted at a time, ensure that all tasks receive the required focus
  • In all cases uses the specified analytical techniques, including auto-titration where required
  • Ensure sample integrity is maintained throughout the preparation and testing process
  • Ensure accurate calculation of analytical results and report / correct erroneous results immediately
  • Communicate to the Quality Manger if any deviations occur
  • Maintain retention samples as required by law
  • Ensure retention samples are tested and data recorded and maintained according to legal requirements
  • Oversee maintenance and cleaning of laboratory glassware, equipment and / or work area to avoid costs
Reporting of Results
  • Accurate recording and prompt reporting of results into the computer Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Oversee and monitor Paper-based quality control sheets completion and sign off daily, and ensure that the light system is activated to indicate product status to Production
  • Where required, verbal communication of the results to Production Personnel and Quality manager
  • Report all deviations and computer errors to the Quality Manager and correct analyst behavior by training, coaching, or disciplinary action as needed
Laboratory EH&S
  • Carries out reasonable instructions of Quality Manager or Emergency Personnel in the event of an emergency
  • Oversee, implement and maintain good laboratory practices (GLP) at all times,
  • Enforce proper usage and control of required PPE at all times, and report unsafe conditions immediately
  • Ensure safe handling and storage of chemicals to prevent spillages, unwanted reactions or contamination with other chemicals
  • Oversee diligent 5S within the Laboratory and train analysts to improve continually.
  • Full control and maintenance of EHSQ tasks, duties and compliance in the laboratory
Skill Requirements
  • Degree in analytical chemistry (BSc) preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' experience managing / leading a team of analysts
  • Computer proficiency in multiple disciplines a must (Office, LIMS, SAP, ETC)
  • Demonstrate literacy and numeracy as required
  • Training in GLP a must with proven track record op implementation and compliance
  • Repeatable accuracy
  • Effective Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude, change readiness, action orientated, teamwork
  • Knowledge and experience in ISO standards Advantageous, etc.
  • Proven track record of success in high pressure environment.
  • Demonstrate Negotiation skills for supplier management
