A healthcare provider in Somerset West is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant I to deliver quality service in a clinical laboratory environment. The role involves handling and testing specimens, and requires a completed accredited program, as well as previous phlebotomy experience. Ideal candidates will have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, working shifts including days and weekends.
You are organized, adaptable, and can work effectively under pressure. Able to prioritize tasks and manage your time, you have technical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills necessary in medical laboratories today. You are comfortable working independently and as part of a team, you can develop and maintain positive working relationships with your colleagues and other healthcare professionals you may interact with. You have good judgement and decision‑making skills and will conduct yourself according to the Alberta Health Services Code of Conduct and the APL Values of Kindness, Inclusion, Innovation, Agility, and Accuracy. This position works shifts Monday-Friday, 7.75hr shifts between 0700‑1615 and every third Saturday 7.75hr shift between 0700‑1530 at Millbourne PSC.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Previous Phlebotomy experience and ECG certification.
At least 2 years of recent phlebotomy experience. ECG experience.
