A leading technical services provider is seeking a motivated Junior Technician in Centurion, South Africa to assist with the maintenance and installation of Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) and associated electrical systems. The ideal candidate will have an N3 Certificate or higher in Electrical Engineering and basic knowledge of VSDs. This full-time position involves key responsibilities in maintenance, electrical inspections, and troubleshooting activities within industrial and mining environments.

Job description

Introduction

We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Junior Technician to assist in the maintenance, installation and fault-finding of Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) power electronics equipment motors pumps transformers UPS systems and electrical cable infrastructure. The role includes hands‑on support in preventative and corrective maintenance, condition monitoring and troubleshooting activities across industrial and mining environments.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance and minor repairs of VSDs (ABB Siemens Schneider etc.)
• Support in installation and servicing of LV / MV motors and pumps
• Conduct basic testing and inspections of transformers UPS systems and electrical panels
• Perform cable installations, terminations and cable fault finding
• Carry out condition monitoring activities such as temperature checks, vibration logging, insulation resistance testing
• Participate in fault diagnosis and repair on electrical and electronic circuits
• Keep accurate maintenance records and job cards

Comply with all safety procedures lock‑out / tag‑out protocols and permit requirements.

Maintain cleanliness, tool control and organisation in the workshop and on site.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

• N3 Certificate or higher in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current or Power Electronics)
• Trade Test in Electrical (advantageous but not mandatory)
• 13 years experience in industrial or mining electrical maintenance
• Basic knowledge of VSDs motor control systems and electrical schematics
• Exposure to fault finding tools and testing equipment (multimeter, megger, thermal camera)
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals
