This is a permanent full-time position for a Junior Technical Accountant starting at the earliest possible date.

Responsibilities

Accounting: Contribute to the accurate reporting of the performance and financial position of the company by collecting accounts in a timely fashion and processing them accurately and efficiently in accordance with treaty terms and conditions. Apply current relevant legislation and guidelines such as VAT and Sanctions as required. Prepare cedent reconciliations; follow up on outstanding accounts; obtain and reconcile performance-based commissions on time and according to treaty terms and conditions; analyze treaty statistics within own portfolio and request adjustments to performance-based commissions where appropriate.

Claims: Contribute to the effective capital management of the company by processing claims information accurately and efficiently and ensuring that reserves are updated and relevant.

Credit Control: Contribute to a stable investment income by ensuring that reconciled balances receivable are collected in a timely manner and that large payments to be made are advised to relevant stakeholders and that reconciled payments are made when due.

Data quality management: Enhance data quality by requesting underwriters to amend treaty encoding where this does not match the wording e.g. signed shares, VAT conditions, brokerage percentage, commission percentage, responsible underwriter, responsible technical accountant etc.

Communication and stakeholder management: Engage with and effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders regarding queries, feedback and critical information regarding the status of accounts and the impact on the business, including business units such as Underwriting, Actuarial and Finance.

Qualifications

Essential: Degree in finance, accounting, business or similar qualification.

Essential: Minimum of 2‑4 years' experience within an insurance environment.

Essential: Understanding of basic bookkeeping terms / accounting principles (debits, credits, income, expense, assets and liabilities); strong reconciliation skills and experience.

Essential: Ability to critically assess and review own work done.

Essential Computer skills: Intermediate level MS Outlook, Word and Excel.

Preferred: Experience within a reinsurance environment.

Preferred Computer skills: MS PowerPoint.
