Red Ember Recruitment is seeking, on behalf of our client, a Junior Sales Representative to support the Retail Sales Team by delivering excellent customer service, assisting clients with product selection, and ensuring full compliance with South African firearms legislation and company policies.
This entry‑level role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about the firearms industry, customer‑focused, and eager to develop strong commercial and compliance skills within a regulated retail environment.
Customer Service & Sales (80%)
- Greet and engage customers in a professional and friendly manner.
- Build rapport with clients and identify their needs and preferences.
- Recommend suitable firearms, ammunition, accessories, reloading equipment, and training options.
- Demonstrate product features, specifications, and safe handling procedures.
- Accurately process sales transactions through POS and e‑commerce systems.
- Ensure all pricing, discounts (with management approval), and documentation are correctly applied.
- Follow up with potential customers, qualify sales leads, and schedule appointments or range demonstrations.
- Promote complementary products such as holsters, cleaning kits, optics, and reloading components.
- Upsell training courses, membership programs, or other value‑added services.
Compliance & Documentation (10%)
- Ensure all firearm sales comply with the Firearms Control Act, NCACC regulations, and company policies.
- Collect, verify, and lodge all required documentation for firearm transfers and collections.
- Maintain accurate and secure records in line with legal and internal compliance standards.
- Assist with periodic audits and inspections; rectify documentation issues under manager supervision.
Inventory & Merchandising (5%)
- Assist with stockroom management : receiving deliveries, unpacking, labelling, and conducting stock counts.
- Maintain showroom presentation and merchandising standards — ensure products are clean, tagged and displayed safely.
- Report low‑stock, damaged goods, or compliance issues to the General / Procurement Manager.
Training & Development (2.5%)
- Complete mandatory compliance and product training within specified timeframes.
- Attend product briefings and supplier training sessions to build product knowledge.
Teamwork & Administration (2.5%)
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across sales, range, training and admin teams.
- Support marketing initiatives (e.g., in‑store promotions, events, social media content where requested).
- Perform administrative tasks (filing, data entry, scheduling appointments) as required.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Monthly sales revenue (individual target)
- Units sold (firearms, Reloading machines, accessories and components) per month.
- Conversion rate — number of sales divided by customer enquiries / appointments.
- Average transaction value (ATV).
- Customer satisfaction score / Net Promoter Score (NPS)
- Accuracy of compliance paperwork (target : 100% for sensitive documentation)
- Stock reconciliation variance (target : ≤1%)
- Number of new customer registrations / leads captured per month (Pipeline)
- Attendance and completion of mandatory training by due dates.
- Number of product knowledge certifications attained.
Requirements
- Matric (National Senior Certificate) or equivalent.
- Valid South African ID and legal right to work in South Africa.
- Minimum 0–2 years’ experience in retail or sales role; experience in firearms or outdoor / sporting goods retail advantageous.
- Must be fluent in English, Afrikaans / Other languages beneficial.
Desirable
- Previous exposure to firearms retail, range operations. - Basic understanding of the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000) processes.
- Familiarity with POS systems and Microsoft Office or similar.
