ROLE SUMMARY

To adopt a holistic view of students in their care, promoting their general progress and well‑being, and to lead the quality of teaching, learning and pastoral care across the Junior Prep phase.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the quality of teaching, learning and pastoral care across the Junior Prep phase.
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff; facilitate targeted CPD aligned to improvement priorities.
  • Oversee curriculum planning, assessment cycles, moderation and statutory / reporting timelines.
  • Use attainment / progress data to drive intervention, enrichment and continuous improvement.
  • Model high‑impact classroom practice and a calm, consistent behaviour culture.
  • Strengthen parent partnership through timely, transparent communication (meetings, reports, updates).
  • Manage phase operations (timetables, cover / locum coordination, routines, compliance and safeguarding).
  • Coordinate / co‑lead co‑curricular programmes and key JP events.
  • Support recruitment / induction and performance development; deputise for senior leaders when needed.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
  • SACE registration (essential).
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., B.Ed / PGCE); formal leadership training / qualification advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years’ successful teaching experience, plus minimum 2 years in a formal leadership role (e.g., grade / phase head, subject lead).
  • Deep curriculum and assessment literacy; confident with data‑informed decision‑making.
  • Experience with IEB or international curricula (advantageous).
  • Outstanding communication, organisation and stakeholder management (staff and parents).
  • Solutions‑focused, resilient, values‑driven; unwavering commitment to safeguarding.
  • Appropriate right to work in South Africa.
