Job Summary
The Junior Network & Systems Engineer is responsible for providing network and systems support to Afrocentric IP and its clients. The role focuses on maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting, and supporting network and server infrastructure while working under the guidance of senior engineers. The position provides an opportunity to develop technical expertise while contributing to reliable day-to-day IT infrastructure operations.
Key Responsibilities
Network & Systems Support
- Provide first- and second-line support for network and server infrastructure issues.
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and basic maintenance of network and systems equipment.
- Perform routine checks and basic troubleshooting across network and server environments.
- Diagnose technical issues and escalate complex problems to senior engineers.
- Resolve assigned support tickets within agreed service levels.
Monitoring & Maintenance
- Monitor network and systems performance dashboards.
- Identify and report infrastructure anomalies to senior engineers.
- Assist with scheduled infrastructure maintenance activities.
- Support patching and backup activities.
- Assist with capacity and performance monitoring of network and server infrastructure.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of support tickets and infrastructure activities.
- Update network and systems documentation following infrastructure changes.
- Maintain accurate configuration and maintenance records.
- Prepare basic reports on support activities and recurring technical issues.
Skills Development & Teamwork
- Participate in on-the-job training and mentoring provided by senior engineers.
- Develop technical knowledge and practical infrastructure skills.
- Pursue relevant technical certifications.
- Work collaboratively with the infrastructure team to maintain consistent service delivery.
- Participate in standby or shift rotations when required.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 1–2 years' experience in network/systems support or an IT helpdesk environment.
- Practical exposure to networking and server fundamentals through study, internship, or work experience.
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP, routing, and switching.
- Basic understanding of Windows and/or Linux server administration.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proactive and team-oriented approach.
- Ability to work shifts or standby rotations when required.
- Own reliable transport is preferred.
- CompTIA Network+ or CCNA certification is advantageous.
