Job summary

A leading consulting firm in South Africa is seeking a Junior Network Security Technician to support and secure IT infrastructure. The role includes monitoring alerts, managing firewalls and VPNs, supporting incident response, and assisting with vulnerability management. Qualifications

Responsibilities

Our esteemed client seeks a Junior Network Security Technician to support and secure IT infrastructure. The role involves monitoring, identifying vulnerabilities, assisting with incident response, and ensuring compliance with security policies under the guidance of the Network Security Team Lead.

Responsibilities
  • Network Security Monitoring: Assist in monitoring alerts, detecting threats, escalating incidents, and documenting security events.
  • Firewall & VPN Management: Assist with configuration, daily management, and monitoring of firewalls, VPNs, and related devices.
  • Vulnerability Management: Run scans, support remediation, and assist with patching security issues.
  • Policies & Documentation: Help maintain policies, document configurations and incidents, and prepare reports.
  • Security Audits: Participate in audits, risk assessments, and enforcement of security policies.
  • Incident Response: Provide first‑line support during incidents, assist with investigations and containment.
  • Collaboration: Work with IT, networking, and development teams to improve security practices.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.
Qualifications
  • 2+ years' experience in network security.
  • Relevant certifications (CompTIA Security+, Network+, Fortinet NSE4 beneficial).
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, SNMP, TELNET, LDAP).
  • Familiarity with firewalls, VPNs, SIEM systems, Linux & Windows.
  • Strong problem‑solving, hardware troubleshooting, and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's licence & own vehicle.
