Position : Junior Hotel Accountant (Hotel Experience Essential)

Are you a detail‑driven finance professional with hotel experience and a passion for accurate, efficient accounting processes? Our client, a high‑end hotel near the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, is seeking a Junior Hotel Accountant to support the daily execution of finance and general ledger activities.

This role is ideal for a candidate with strong accounting fundamentals, experience within a hotel finance department, and the ability to manage reconciliations, audits, reporting, and compliance with precision and professionalism.

About the Role

The Junior Hotel Accountant will support the finance team in managing daily accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial data, and maintaining a strong internal control environment. You will be involved in general ledger work, bank reconciliations, period‑end closing, variance investigations, stock audits, credit card balancing, and producing financial reports used for operational and strategic decision making.

Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Reconciliation
  • Perform daily general ledger functions including account balancing and discrepancy resolution.
  • Reconcile banking, investigate variances, and ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Check figures, postings, entries, and documents for accuracy and proper coding.
  • Prepare and distribute financial, accounting, statistical, auditing, and payroll reports.
  • Complete period‑end closing procedures and submit required reports timeously.
  • Maintain credit card ledgers and perform credit checks where required.
  • Classify and summarise financial data using journals, ledgers, and accounting systems.
Audit & Compliance
  • Participate in internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.
  • Conduct stock take audits and verify counts.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, LSOPs, and financial control standards.
  • Understand and apply fraud‑prevention and collection procedures.
Financial Control & Reporting
  • Support financial goals, budgets, and performance targets.
  • Document profits and losses accurately.
  • Monitor applicable taxes, ensuring they are properly accrued and collected.
  • Assist other departments with budgeting and financial policy guidance.
  • Maintain a robust accounting control environment.
Technical Accounting Knowledge
  • Apply knowledge of P&L statements, cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Use financial systems, spreadsheets, and relevant accounting software tools.
  • Analyse and summarise financial data.
  • Stay up to date with technical accounting knowledge and hotel finance best practices.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in hotel finance or hospitality accounting.
  • Strong experience with reconciliations, general ledger entries, and accounting processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, spreadsheets, and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong mathematical reasoning, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Valid South African ID.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
