Job summary

Finovate SA, based in Somerset West, is seeking a Junior Fractional Financial Manager to support a portfolio of SMEs with management accounts, reconciliations and financial reports. This client-facing role offers guidance from a Senior Fractional Financial Manager and progression towards a Senior role.

You will grow into a broader client portfolio, learning to present results in client meetings while building skills in budgeting, tax readiness and financial leadership.

Qualifications

• BCom degree or Honours in Accounting or Finance.
• Completed traineeship and qualified, or close to qualifying as CIMA CGMA, AGA(SA), SAIPA or CA(SA).
• 3 to 5 years' experience including traineeship (0 to 2 years post-qualification).
• Sound understanding of IFRS for SMEs, tax legislation and management accounting principles.
• Experience preparing management accounts, financial statements and reconciliations.
• Proficiency in Xero, QuickBooks, Dext, ApprovalMax, Draftworx or similar.
• SARS eFiling experience (advantageous).
• Strong analytical, communication and relationship skills; able to manage multiple clients and deadlines.
• Openness to AI and emerging technologies
• Eagerness to learn and grow into a Senior Fractional Financial Manager role.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports for review by the Senior FFM or Team Lead.
• Perform monthly reconciliations: bank, VAT, payroll, balance sheet and income statement.
• Prepare annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Assist clients with budgeting, forecasting and cost modelling.
• Gather information for annual income tax planning and tax readiness with the Tax & Compliance team.
• Follow and help document SOPs for clients' finance functions.
• Keep to agreed monthly reporting cycles and action trackers.
• Manage the day-to-day financials of assigned clients, with oversight.
• Prepare for and attend monthly client meetings, presenting sections of the results.
• Prepare cash flow reports and maintain reporting dashboards.
• Support special projects, audit and independent review files, and compliance with accounting standards and tax legislation.
• Flag process improvements and additional Finovate service opportunities.

Think of someone with a BCom, a completed traineeship and 0 to 2 years post-qualification (or close to qualifying as CIMA CGMA, AGA(SA), SAIPA or CA(SA)), who has prepared management accounts, reconciliations and financial statements for multiple clients in an accounting firm or client-facing finance role. They take review points on the chin, clear them quickly and make fewer repeat mistakes over time. They are comfortable on Xero or QuickBooks, ready to present sections of results in client meetings, and eager to grow into running their own portfolio.

About the role

Finovate SA is a Somerset West-based fractional CFO firm that partners with South African SMEs to deliver strategic financial leadership, accounting, tax and compliance support. As a Junior Fractional Financial Manager you will support a portfolio of clients, preparing accurate management accounts, reconciliations and financial reports, supporting client meetings and building the skills to grow into a Senior Fractional Financial Manager role. You will work under the guidance of a Senior Fractional Financial Manager and the Fractional FM Team Lead. This is a client-facing growth role with clear progression.
