This lodge is seeking a junior Field Guide to join our wildlife and safari team and expand on their work experience. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the local flora and fauna, a commitment to guest safety and education, and the ability to deliver engaging, memorable safari experiences. This role requires professionalism, excellent communication skills, and a genuine love for nature and conservation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct guided game drives, bush walks, and other safari experiences for guests, ensuring safety and enjoyment.
- Educate guests about wildlife behavior, ecology, and conservation practices.
- Assist with tracking and monitoring wildlife, including data collection and reporting.
- Ensure all equipment (vehicles, firearms, radios, and safety gear) is maintained and in good working order.
- Collaborate with other guides and lodge staff to deliver a seamless guest experience.
- Maintain compliance with reserve safety and operational protocols at all times.
- Participate in continuous professional development and stay updated with wildlife management best practices.
Requirements
- Must be exceptional with birding, as this is a focus on game drives at this beautiful lodge.
- Valid Field Guide qualification from a reputable training institution.
- Physical guide card valid for the relevant region (Western Cape).
- Strong knowledge of South African wildlife, ecology, and conservation in order to do interesting game drives on a non-big 5 reserve.
- CATHSSETA-qualified (Nature site guide NQF2).
- Valid PDP (Professional Driving Permit).
- Strong references verifying experience and character.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- South African citizenship or permanent residency.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Calm under pressure and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Enthusiastic, approachable, and professional demeanor.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak seasons.
