Job summary

West Coast Personnel in South Africa is seeking early-career Electrical Engineering graduates for a Junior Apprentice role. You will assist Technicians with servicing, maintenance, installation and repair of equipment at customer sites and in the workshop, gaining practical hands-on experience under supervision.

This entry-level position offers a permanent contract and a starting salary of R6,500 per month.

Responsibilities

• Assisting Technicians with travel to customer locations, including homes, businesses and job sites.
• Assisting with the inspection, servicing, installation and repair of equipment under the direction of a Technician.
• Preparing and organising tools, equipment, parts and materials required for service calls and installations.
• Assisting Technicians with basic troubleshooting and testing of equipment while under supervision.
• Learning to identify common equipment faults and understanding the correct procedures for resolving them.
• Assisting with routine preventative maintenance and general servicing of equipment.
• Assisting with the installation of new equipment, hardware, machinery or products under the supervision of a Technician.
• Assisting with the removal, replacement and installation of faulty parts or components as instructed.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Junior Apprentice will assist Technicians with the servicing, maintenance, installation and repair of equipment at customer sites and within the workshop. The position is intended to provide practical, hands-on experience and technical development while working under the guidance and supervision of experienced Technicians.

The Junior Apprentice is expected to learn the company's procedures, equipment and technical standards while providing reliable support to the Technical Team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assisting Technicians with travelling to customer locations, including homes, businesses and job sites.
• Assisting with the inspection, servicing, installation and repair of equipment under the direction of a Technician.
• Preparing and organising tools, equipment, parts and materials required for service calls and installations.
• Assisting Technicians with basic troubleshooting and testing of equipment while under supervision.

• Learning how to correctly use tools, testing equipment, diagnostic equipment and relevant software.
• Following technical instructions, manuals, schematics and manufacturer guidelines as directed by the Technician.
• Assisting with testing equipment after servicing, installation or repairs to ensure that it is operating correctly and safely.
• Assisting with the loading, unloading, handling and transportation of equipment, tools and parts.
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area at customer sites, in vehicles and within the workshop.
• Assisting Technicians in preparing for customer service calls and ensuring that the required tools, parts and equipment are available.
• Observing and learning from experienced Technicians to develop practical technical knowledge and skills.
• Communicating professionally with customers and assisting Technicians in responding to customer queries when required.
• Following all company policies, procedures, health and safety requirements and manufacturer guidelines.
• Maintaining a professional appearance and conduct when representing the company at customer locations.
• Assisting with the completion of service documentation and records as instructed.
• Reporting any equipment faults, safety concerns, damaged tools or other issues to the responsible Technician or Service Manager.
• Completing all required training, learning activities and assessments associated with the apprenticeship.
• Performing any other reasonable duties related to the Apprentice's training and development as instructed by management.
