Perform routine health checks on database instances, including space utilisation, transaction log growth, scheduled job status, and error log reviews
Execute scheduled database maintenance activities, such as index rebuilds, reorganisation, statistics updates, and consistency checks
Assist with database patching, service pack deployment, and version upgrades
Monitor daily backup jobs, address or escalate failures, and perform periodic restore testing to validate backup integrity and recoverability
Assist with maintaining, documenting, and testing disaster recovery and high-availability configurations
Monitor database performance metrics and alerting dashboards
Identify long-running, blocking, or resource-intensive queries and assist with query and index optimisation
Administer user accounts, roles, and permissions following least-privilege principles
Support audit and compliance activities through audit-log reviews and evidence collection
Respond to service desk tickets, providing first- and second-line support to developers, analysts, and business users
Prepare, submit, and implement change requests in line with change-management procedures
Support development and testing teams with database refreshes, data masking, and environment provisioning
Develop and maintain automation scripts for operational tasks
Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, configuration registers, and knowledge-base articles
Participate in after-hours activities, scheduled maintenance, releases, and upgrades
1–2 years’ experience in IT support, data, or database-related roles
Knowledge of Database Administration principles
Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
Troubleshooting skills in a database environment
Familiarity with scripting and automation tools
Understanding of disaster recovery and high-availability configurations
