Overview
The Junior Communications and Marketing Coordinator supports the day‑to‑day work of the Communications Department, focusing on internal communication, content creation and social media. The role includes drafting clear copy for social media, short news updates, website content, and supporting longer‑form pieces such as blog posts, opinion pieces, impact stories and litigation summaries. The Coordinator will create engaging short‑form video content and visual materials such as tiles, infographics and simple motion graphics in line with LRC brand guidelines, assist with layout of reports, publications and the annual report using approved templates, monitor social media comments, messages and mentions, respond in line with LRC values, engage with partner content, track relevant trends and hashtags, support daily posting and rapid‑response content in consultation with the Communications and Marketing Officer, support events, media work and brand management, provide basic photography and videography at events, coordinate printed and branded materials, draft short and timely post‑event write‑ups for the website, newsletter and social media, maintain and update media contact and press lists, assist with media advisories, press statements, interviews, briefing notes and media monitoring, help share key stories with media partners and allied organisations, create staff email signatures and business cards using approved templates, help maintain official LRC letterheads and brand assets, keep shared folders organised and support colleagues to apply the LRC brand and Communications Policy correctly. Responsibilities may shift over time in line with the needs of the Communications Department.
Responsibilities
- Internal communication and liaison: Support training on branding, consent and communications so staff understand and follow LRC guidelines.
- Content creation: Draft clear social media copy, short news updates, basic website text and support blog posts, opinion pieces, impact stories and litigation summaries for LRC platforms; create short‑form video content and design campaign and social media visuals such as tiles, infographics and simple motion graphics; assist with layout for reports, publications and the annual report using agreed templates.
- Social media and community engagement: Monitor comments, messages and mentions on social media, respond in line with LRC values, engage with partner content to help build and maintain online relationships; track relevant trending topics and hashtags, share brief daily updates with the Communications and Marketing Officer, help flag real‑time engagement opportunities and draft rapid‑response copy or talking points; assist the Communications and Marketing Officer with daily posting on social media when needed.
- Events and multimedia coverage: Provide photography and videography at events, site visits, workshops, panel discussions, court cases and other activities in line with consent and safety guidelines; help coordinate printed and branded materials, check proofs, track production, arrange delivery and promote events on the website, email and social channels; manage consent and shot lists for photos and videos and draft short, timely post‑event write‑ups for the website, newsletter and social media.
- Media support and external relations: Maintain and update media contact and press distribution lists; support preparation and distribution of media advisories, alerts and press statements; coordinate media interviews, prepare basic briefing notes for spokespeople, assist with media monitoring, capture coverage and keep an organised record of mentions; share selected stories and updates with key media partners and allied organisations; create email signatures and business cards for staff using approved templates and help maintain the official LRC letterhead and ensure correct use; keep brand templates and assets up to date, shared folders organised, and support staff to use LRC branding correctly, referring colleagues to the Communications Policy when needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree.
- At least two years of experience in a similar communications or marketing role, with a strong focus on social media content and coordination.
- Advantageous: experience in a nonprofit, civil society or public interest setting.
- Advantageous: exposure to legal issues, either through work at a public interest law organisation or through legal studies.
- An affinity for creative content creation, including strong writing skills, comfort with basic design tools such as Canva and interest in simple video creation and editing.
- Strong technological proficiencies.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- A hard‑working and curious approach, with a real willingness to get stuck in and to grow both the role and yourself over time.
- A self‑starter mindset with the ability to work independently while staying aligned with team priorities and direction.
- Ability to work well in a diverse team and to build respectful relationships across programmes and offices.
