Knight Piésold Southern Africa invites a Junior Civil Engineer- Tailings to join our Mine Residue Services team in Sandton. You’ll gain hands-on experience in planning, design, construction and management of tailings storage facilities, supported by senior engineers.

Qualifications

• BSc Eng or BEng in Civil Engineering is required.
• 1-3 years of relevant civil engineering experience is expected.
• Registered, or eligible to register, as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA.
• Experience with mine residue, tailings or geotechnical projects is advantageous.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Civil 3D or similar software is advantageous.

• Support civil engineering design, technical studies, calculations and project documentation.

• Analyse technical data and contribute to reports and design deliverables.

Job description

Knight Piésold is looking for a Junior Civil Engineer- Tailings to join our Mine Residue Services (MRS) team in Sandton.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Civil Engineer looking to build practical experience in the planning, design, construction and management of mine residue and tailings storage facilities (TSFs). You will work alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams, gaining valuable technical and site-based exposure while developing your capabilities towards professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).

Key responsibilities

You will be involved in a variety of mine residue and tailings projects, with responsibilities including:

• Supporting senior engineers with civil engineering design, technical studies, calculations and project documentation.
• Assisting with the planning, design and assessment of tailings storage facilities and associated infrastructure.
• Analysing technical data and contributing to engineering reports and design deliverables.
• Supporting the preparation of tender and contract documentation.
• Assisting with project administration, progress tracking and document control.
• Gaining valuable construction and site experience, including supporting construction monitoring and site-based engineering activities.
• Where required, working as an Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) or site representative, gaining exposure to contract administration, construction methodologies, quality assurance and stakeholder coordination.
• Working collaboratively with engineers, project managers, clients, contractors and other multidisciplinary professionals.
• Participating actively in technical training, mentoring and professional development initiatives.
• Progressing through the Candidate Engineer journey, working towards achieving the required ECSA competency outcomes for professional registration.
• BSc Eng or BEng in Civil Engineering.
• 1-3 years' relevant civil engineering experience.
• Experience or exposure to mine residue, tailings or geotechnical projects will be advantageous.
• Registered, or eligible to register, as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA.
• A sound understanding of fundamental civil engineering principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Civil 3D or similar engineering software will be advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Good attention to detail and technical accuracy.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• A genuine interest in learning, developing technical expertise and building a career in mine residue engineering.
