Job summary

BM Consulting in Sandton is seeking a Junior Attorney to join its International Trade, Customs and Excise Services team. The role involves delivering expert advice on trade matters, conducting compliance reviews for imports/exports, and supporting litigation with SARS on customs issues.

The ideal candidate is newly qualified or a candidate attorney with 3–6 years' experience and solid exposure to trade, customs and excise work.

Qualifications

• Newly Qualified Attorney / Candidate Attorney.
• 3 to 6 years' experience in legal practice.
• Solid exposure to Trade, Customs and Excise.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on Trade, Customs and Excise matters.
• Conduct compliance reviews for imports/exports and excisable goods.
• Assist in litigation and dispute resolution with SARS (Customs).
• Provide tariff classification and customs/excise valuation advice.
• Support clients in audits, trade remedies and tariff investigations.
• Advise on Import/Export Agreements, SLAs and NDAs.
• Review client import/export activities and identify risks and opportunities.
• Stay updated on international trade landscape and tariff activities.
• Assist with registrations, licensing, accreditation and related government correspondences (SARS/ITAC).
