Job summary

A leading credit management firm in Durban is seeking a Junior Attorney to support the Legal Department and Call Centre. This role specializes in debt collection and requires an LLB Degree along with strong communication, analytical, and detail-oriented skills. The position involves drafting legal documents, advising clients on legal matters, and managing several administrative tasks. A commitment to continuous learning is also required.

Qualifications

  • Rights of appearance in the lower courts.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and manage correspondence to/from clients, defendants, and attorneys.
  • Peruse and prepare pleadings, notices, and legal documents.
  • Advise clients on legal matters and progress.
  • Maintain and update the defended matter spreadsheets.
  • Monitor and follow up on payment arrangements.
  • Negotiate settlements with defendants or legal representatives.
  • Prepare matters for trial and follow up on court lodgments.
  • Attend to new instructions and court queries.

Internal Vacancy : Junior Attorney (Legal Department - RLD)

Location : Daly Credit Corporation

Contract : Fixed-term (3 months probation) ? Permanent

Purpose of the Role : Support the Directors, Legal Department, and Call Centre as an in‑house legal practitioner specializing in debt collection.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

LLB Degree (Newly admitted, 1–3 years PQE)

Rights of appearance in the lower courts

Computer literate (MS Word, Outlook, Excel)

Key Responsibilities

Draft and manage correspondence to / from clients, defendants, and attorneys

Peruse and prepare pleadings, notices, and legal documents

Advise clients on legal matters and progress

Maintain and update the defended matter spreadsheets

Monitor and follow up on payment arrangements

Negotiate settlements with defendants or legal representatives

Prepare matters for trial and follow up on court lodgments

Attend to new instructions and court queries

Secure and manage correspondent attorneys and fee structures

Draft SLAs, summons, and affidavit templates

Handle disputes, sheriff‑related issues, and client challenges

Conduct legal research as required

Draft and check invoices for defended matters and correspondents

General ad hoc legal administrative work
