Industrial Scientific is a global leader in gas detection solutions, committed to keeping people safe in hazardous environments. We are seeking a driven and results‑oriented Area Sales Manager to join our team in South Africa. This position reports to the Strategic Sales Leader – Emerging Markets.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic sales plan to achieve and exceed assigned sales quotas for gas detection solutions across South Africa.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers across various industries, including Chemical, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, Mining, Manufacturing, and Utilities.
- Identify customer needs and present Industrial Scientific's gas detection solutions as the best fit for safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Manage a network of distributors and channel partners, ensuring their successful promotion and sales of our products.
- Deliver impactful sales presentations and technical seminars to educate potential and existing customers on the benefits of our gas detection systems.
- Negotiate and close subscription contracts with new and existing customers, ensuring adherence to company pricing and sales policies.
- Regularly travel within South Africa to meet with customers and attend industry events.
- Collaborate with internal teams such as marketing, application engineering, and customer service to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Participate in sales meetings, conferences, and trade shows to promote Industrial Scientific's gas detection solutions and build brand awareness.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the South African market dynamics, gas detection regulations, and competitor landscape.
- Utilize CRM and other sales tools effectively to track sales activity, generate reports, and forecast future sales performance.
- Contribute to the development of sales strategies and ensure alignment with company objectives and ethical codes of conduct.
- Provide ongoing technical and application support to customers, ensuring they leverage the full potential of our gas detection solutions.
- Prepare insightful sales reports and forecasts to support regional and national sales goals.
Qualifications – Required
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- 3–5 years of successful experience in B2B sales, preferably within the industrial safety or gas detection industry.
- Proven track record of exceeding sales targets in a competitive environment.
- Strong understanding of gas detection technologies and their applications.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships with customers and partners at all levels.
- Self‑motivated, results‑oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience working in South Africa and a deep understanding of the local market.
Qualifications – Preferred
- Strong understanding of gas detection technology, safety regulations, and their application in the oil & gas sector.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Continuously develop and improve knowledge of the oil & gas industry and the South African business landscape.
Languages
- Primary language: Afrikaans.
- English – required.
- Additional preferred languages: Xhosa, Zulu, Sotho.
Additional Information
- Valid South African driver's licence and willingness to travel extensively within the territory.
- Position eligible for bonus as part of the total compensation package.
