A leading engineering firm in South Africa is seeking a Junior Accountant to manage daily accounting transactions and assist in the preparation of financial statements. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in accounting and at least 2 years of experience in the finance environment. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are essential. This full-time role offers an opportunity to support various financial functions and contribute to project execution.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the Junior Accountant will support the finance, project management, procurement and corporate services functions.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day business account activities under supervision, handling tax matters, supporting procurement processes, aiding in project execution, and providing corporate services support.
Manage daily accounting transactions, including invoicing, payments, receipts, and journal entries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and reconciliations regularly
Support tax compliance, including VAT, PAYE, and other relevant tax filings, and liaise with external auditors or tax consultants as needed
Maintain and update the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
Support procurement processes by preparing purchase requisitions, obtaining quotes, and processing purchase orders
Track and manage company expenses, reimbursements, and vendor payments
Help coordinate project budget tracking, expense allocation, and financial reporting for ongoing engineering projects
Assist in the review and verification of supplier invoices and payment documentation
Support audit preparations by providing necessary documentation and explanations
Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls and financial procedures
Contribute to the management of corporate banking relationships and oversee petty cash operations
Provide administrative support related to company registration, permits, and registrations, such as CSD, and others
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
At least 2 years in an accounting or finance environment
Knowledge of accounting software and MS Office Suite
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
