About the roleAre you a curious and driven news journalist? Now Media, one of South Africa’s most established B2B publishing houses, is looking for a journalist to join its Travel News and Tourism Update editorial team.

This is a newsroom role for someone who thrives on finding original angles, engaging directly with the industry, and producing accurate, insightful journalism that helps readers make informed business decisions. Our journalists are at the heart of the industries we cover, building trusted relationships with travel professionals, operators, tourism boards and policymakers to deliver independent, impactful coverage that makes a difference.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Johannesburg. It is business-to-business (B2B) journalism – not consumer or lifestyle writing. Our readers are travel agents, tour operators and tourism professionals who rely on our publications for accurate, timely and operationally relevant information. Key responsibilities

Key responsibilities
  • News reporting: Track, research and analyse trends, policies and developments shaping the travel and tourism sectors, focusing on issues that affect the professional trade community.
  • Interviewing and networking: Build trusted relationships and conduct interviews with travel professionals, tourism authorities, operators and industry leaders to uncover original insights.
  • Writing and storytelling: Produce clear, engaging and accurate news and feature articles that reflect editorial integrity and serve a professional readership.
  • Data and policy interpretation: Analyse travel data, market trends and regulatory updates to explain their impact on businesses and operations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with editors and colleagues to maintain high standards of accuracy, clarity and journalistic tone.
  • Deadline management: Deliver quality work consistently under tight deadlines, demonstrating professionalism, organisation and initiative.

Requirements
  • Experience: Demonstrated journalism or writing experience with a portfolio of published work. Experience in newsroom or trade / industry reporting is preferred.
  • Education: A degree or diploma in Journalism, English, Communications, Politics, Economics or a related field is preferred.
  • Own transport: A valid driver’s licence and vehicle. Travel may be required for events, interviews and press trips.
