Job description

Electrical Maintenance Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to oversee and improve electrical systems within our facilities. The role involves:

  1. Performing regular equipment inspections to identify and address potential issues proactively.
  2. Overseeing three yearly electrical maintenance shutdowns to ensure efficiency and appropriate maintenance at the Energy Centre and MV level.
  3. Driving the transformation from preventive maintenance to condition-based maintenance.
  4. Recommending which electrical maintenance and inspection functions should be insourced.
  5. Advising the Maintenance Department to ensure all electrical systems are maintained according to company standards, international best practices, and OEM requirements.
  6. Bridging the skills gap between service providers and company operations by questioning suggested repairs.
  7. Serving as a third-line escalation point for complex technical issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve emergencies promptly.
  8. Compiling electrical system simulation scenarios and assisting with scheduling and completion of exercises to ensure team readiness for emergencies.
  9. Highlighting training needs and collaborating with the L&D Manager to develop and deliver training programs to enhance electrical/UPS skills.
  10. Involvement in root cause analyses and tracking corrective actions, ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into national scenario training.
  11. Managing electrical capacity, including load balancing, capacity design, demand management, and trip risk mitigation, especially when operating above 95% capacity in high-density racks.
  12. Utilizing the Building Management System (BMS) for trend analysis of alarms and incidents to identify improvement opportunities.

Qualifications and experience :
  • Relevant electrical and UPS certifications or Government Certificate of Competency
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registration with the SA Council for Professional Engineers
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer
  • Proficient knowledge of electrical systems, MV, STS, UPS, transformers, etc.
  • Familiarity with energy-efficient practices and technologies
  • Experience in data centre or critical facility operations is desirable
  • Own transport, with willingness to travel to various sites as required
