Electrical Maintenance Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to oversee and improve electrical systems within our facilities. The role involves:
- Performing regular equipment inspections to identify and address potential issues proactively.
- Overseeing three yearly electrical maintenance shutdowns to ensure efficiency and appropriate maintenance at the Energy Centre and MV level.
- Driving the transformation from preventive maintenance to condition-based maintenance.
- Recommending which electrical maintenance and inspection functions should be insourced.
- Advising the Maintenance Department to ensure all electrical systems are maintained according to company standards, international best practices, and OEM requirements.
- Bridging the skills gap between service providers and company operations by questioning suggested repairs.
- Serving as a third-line escalation point for complex technical issues and collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve emergencies promptly.
- Compiling electrical system simulation scenarios and assisting with scheduling and completion of exercises to ensure team readiness for emergencies.
- Highlighting training needs and collaborating with the L&D Manager to develop and deliver training programs to enhance electrical/UPS skills.
- Involvement in root cause analyses and tracking corrective actions, ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into national scenario training.
- Managing electrical capacity, including load balancing, capacity design, demand management, and trip risk mitigation, especially when operating above 95% capacity in high-density racks.
- Utilizing the Building Management System (BMS) for trend analysis of alarms and incidents to identify improvement opportunities.

Qualifications and experience :
- Relevant electrical and UPS certifications or Government Certificate of Competency
- A degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registration with the SA Council for Professional Engineers
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer
- Proficient knowledge of electrical systems, MV, STS, UPS, transformers, etc.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient practices and technologies
- Experience in data centre or critical facility operations is desirable
- Own transport, with willingness to travel to various sites as required
