Job summary

Eskom is offering a 2-year internship/learning programme. Successful applicants will sign a contract and receive a stipend. You’ll be placed in plant maintenance environments (power stations or technical sites) to gain hands-on experience.

Apply your knowledge to measuring, drawings, and maintenance tasks under supervision, with emphasis on safety, quality, and adherence to engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Student pursuing post-secondary studies in engineering with a focus on mechatronics, mechanical, electrical or electronics.
• Electrical (Power Plant) option is an added advantage.
• Willingness to learn in plant maintenance environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate and use measuring equipment in maintenance tasks.
• Use mechanical, electrical and instrumentation tools to take measurements.
• Read and interpret technical drawings and component drawings.
• Understand tolerances and engineering specifications.
• Perform maintenance-related tasks under supervision.
• Assist with plant maintenance activities while following correct procedures.
• Maintain quality and safety standards and apply basic quality systems.
• Follow processes for consistency and engineering compliance.
• Work with technical specifications and international codes and standards.
• Use basic hand tools safely and effectively.
• Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors.
• Plan and organize tasks at a basic level.
• Use computers for technical or reporting purposes.
• Work reliably under pressure and show initiative to learn.
• Adapt to changes in the work environment.
