Job summary

A manufacturing recruitment agency in KwaZulu-Natal is seeking an experienced Tool and Die Maker to contribute to precision manufacturing. The ideal candidate will transform raw metal into finely crafted components and will have at least five years of experience in a similar role, a Grade 12 qualification, and be Trade Tested. This full-time position is based in Durban and offers opportunities within the metal fabrication industry.

Qualifications

  • At least five years' experience post-apprenticeship in a similar position.
  • Experience with CNC & FUNUC control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design schematics.

  • Visualizing and computing metal shapes and tolerances.
  • Designing jigs and templates for part fabrication.
  • Setting up machine tools such as drills, lathes, and milling machines.

Tool and Die Maker

About the Role — As a Tool and Die Maker, you'll play a critical role in precision manufacturing by transforming raw metal into finely crafted components that meet exacting standards.

This position demands a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of machining processes.

Responsibilities
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, design schematics and CAD drawings.
  • Visualizing and computing metal shapes and tolerances.
  • Designing jigs and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts.
  • Measuring and marking metal stock for machining.
  • Setting up machine tools such as drills, lathes, grinders and milling machines.
  • Cutting and shaping blocks to specified dimensions.
  • Filling, grinding and shimming metals to ensure a smooth finish.
  • Fitting and assembling tools and die parts.
  • Inspecting finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness and contour deformities.
  • Conducting test runs with completed tools and dies.
Qualifications

Grade 12 & Trade Tested & Certified.

Required Skills
  • At least five years' experience Post Apprenticeship in a similar position, preferably within the Metal and or industry.
  • Experience with CNC & FUNUC control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design schematics.
