IT Support Specialist : 3 Year Fixed Term

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL VACANCY : IT SUPPORT SPECIALIST : 3 YEAR FIXED-TERM

CEF is a Schedule 2 state owned diversified energy company reporting to the Department of Mineral & Petroleum Resources.

The Mandate of CEF is to contribute to the security of energy supply of South Africa and the Region through exploration, acquisition, development, marketing and strategic partnership.

JOB PURPOSE

The IT Support Specialist provides advanced technical support to CEF and SANPC Refinery's IT for escalated IT issues, ensuring the stability, performance, and security of end-user systems and services.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree (NQF 7) in Information Technology / Computer Science

A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role

Ten years' experience in Information Technology will serve as an added advantage.

Microsoft (MCSE / MCSA) or equivalent is preferred

Honours Degree (NQF 8) in Information Technology / Computer Science will serve as an added advantage.

DESIRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS / COMPETENCIES

Strong technical knowledge of Windows OS, Office , and endpoint security.

Solid understanding of networking concepts including LAN / WAN, TCP / IP, firewalls, and VPNs.

Proven experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and remote management tools.

Excellent analytical thinking and root cause analysis capabilities.

Ability to work independently while also mentoring junior technicians.

Strong organisational, documentation, and time management skills.

Sound knowledge of IT security best practices.

Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Clear and professional communication skills (both written and verbal).

Adaptable, solution-focused, and able to perform effectively under pressure.

Demonstrates a strong sense of execution, reliability, and accountability.

Service-oriented and collaborative, with a passion for delivering high-quality IT support.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Technical Support

Provide second line technical support for hardware, software, and network issues, responding to user inquiries via phone, remote support tools, email, or in-person.

Investigate and resolve complex technical issues escalated from First Line Support.

Perform advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for hardware, software, and network issues.

Maintain and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and service level agreements (SLAs) for IT infrastructure and network management.

Liaise with third-party vendors and internal teams for issue resolution.

Installation and Configuration

Oversee the installation, maintenance, and configuration of CEF and SANPC Refinery's IT infrastructure components, including servers, switches, routers, and network devices.

Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, printers, and peripherals for end-users.

Support the deployment of software applications and updates across the organization.

System Maintenance

Manage and maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) to track and manage CEF and SANPC Refinery's IT assets.

Manage and maintain Active Directory, Microsoft , email systems, and file servers.

Perform regular system checks, software updates, and backups to ensure optimal performance and security.

Monitor system performance and implement necessary improvements or upgrades.

Financial – Ensure efficient use of allocated resources

Record and track consumables (e.g., printer cartridges, cables, peripheral replacements).

Ensure efficient use of allocated resources (e.g., avoiding unnecessary replacements, re-using equipment where possible).

Submit requisitions for replacement equipment within approved guidelines.

Report any variances or issues in expenditure to supervisor.

Assist in inventory / audit of IT assets to support financial accountability.

Documentation and reporting

Maintain accurate records of support requests, resolutions, and inventory of IT equipment and software.

Create reports on IT infrastructure support.

Document issues and resolutions for future reference.

Maintain asset inventory and ensure compliance with IT policies.

Document solutions and contribute to the knowledge base.

Ensure escalations to Third Line Support or vendors are handled effectively with detailed documentation.
