Job Purpose
Responsible for the effective management, maintenance, and support of the organization’s IT infrastructure and end-user environments. This role ensures operational continuity by delivering timely technical assistance, managing IT assets, supporting network and server operations, and coordinating with external vendors. The individual will also ensure compliance with organizational policies, cybersecurity standards, and IT best practices relevant to the South African environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of IT assets, including laptops, desktops, monitors/LEDs, printers, and peripherals.
- Ensure regular physical inventory checks and reconciliation.
- Support monitoring of software licenses, antivirus subscriptions, and renewal schedules.
User Onboarding & Support
- Prepare and configure laptops for new employees.
- Create user accounts and assign access rights under guidance.
- Install standard applications required for the role.
- Provide first-line support for hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Log and track support requests, escalating complex issues to the line manager.
- Support users via phone, email, or in-person as required.
Technical Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve routine hardware, software, and peripheral issues.
- Assist with basic network troubleshooting (LAN/Wi-Fi).
- Identify infrastructure weaknesses, network bottlenecks, and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Escalate server, firewall, or advanced network issues to line manager.
Meeting Room & AV Equipment Support
- Maintain and support all audio-visual (AV) equipment, video conferencing systems, and PA systems.
- Ensure uninterrupted operation of LEDs, projectors, conferencing devices, and other AV systems.
Network Configuration and Management
- Understand network architectures, topologies, and best-practice configurations.
- Hands-on experience in setting up networks from core to access levels.
- Install, configure, and maintain network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, access points).
- Monitor network performance, availability, and security.
- Perform firmware upgrades, apply security patches, and ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards.
Preventive Maintenance
- Carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) tasks as per defined schedules.
- Maintain server rooms, NOC areas, and critical hardware in optimal working condition.
- Ensure cleanliness, proper cabling, and hardware health checks.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain checklists, user guides, and IT records.
- Assist in updating system and process documentation under guidance.
- Support periodic reporting requirements as assigned by the line manager.
Vendor Coordination
- Liaise with suppliers and service providers for procurement, repairs, and technical support.
- Track service delivery timelines and ensure SLA compliance.
- Evaluate vendor performance and recommend improvements.
Ad Hoc Duties
- Assist with IT projects, system updates, or migrations under supervision.
- Perform other IT-related duties assigned by the line manager and team members.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (ksa)
Required Qualification
- Diploma in Information Technology or related field (NQF Level 6).
- Basic IT certifications (CompTIA A+, Microsoft 365 Fundamentals) advantageous but not required.
Required Experience
- 2 – 4 years in IT support, helpdesk, or technical operations.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Windows/macOS environments.
- Understanding of network fundamentals, firewalls, and cybersecurity principles.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.
